Vastus Intermedius
Region: Hip, Thigh and Knee

Origin: Proximal 2/3 of the anterolateral surface of the femur, lower 1/2 of the linea aspera, upper part of the lateral supracondylar line, lateral intermuscular septum.

Insertion: By tendons of the rectus and vasti muscles into the superior border of the patella and through the patellar ligament into the tibial tuberosity.

Isolated function: Assists in concentric acceleration of knee extension.

Integrated function: 
-Assists in eccentric deceleration of knee flexion, adduction and internal rotation during heel strike.
-Assists in dynamic stabilization of the knee during functional movement patterns.

Nerve Supply:  Femoral, L2, 3, 4.
